About The Cleveland Museum of Art

Founded in 1913 by the Cleveland industrialists Hinman Hurlbut, John Huntington and Horace Kelley, the museum opened in 1916 in a neoclassical building by Hubbell & Benes, and has never charged for its permanent collection. Marcel Breuer added the North Wing in 1971, and a $350 million rebuilding by Rafael Viñoly, finished in 2013, wrapped the whole thing around a glass-roofed atrium. In 2019 it put roughly 30,000 works online under Creative Commons Zero, free for anyone to use.
